Safe and effective for most prescriptions, laser refractive surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures performed in the United States. It is effective at correcting most refractive issues, such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.
In most cases the procedure itself only takes about 10 minutes per eye. It is generally painless, though some postoperative discomfort is expected for a few days.
Interested in surgery? A consultation is required in order to determine your candidacy. Visit us for a detailed evaluation of your eye and its candidacy for refractive surgery.
Unfortunately, laser refractive surgeries aren’t ideal for everyone. In order to achieve the best possible outcome, it’s important for us to perform the appropriate due diligence prior to providing you with a surgical referral.
During your consultation we will perform a comprehensive eye exam, looking at the shape and curvature of your cornea in particular. Some items we look for are:
While LASIK is the most well known surgery, it is not the only type available to correct refractive issues.
There are other versions of laser surgery not discussed here. The above three are the most popular.
On the day of surgery, surgical preparation will actually take more time than the surgery itself. While you will be at the Ophthalmologist’s office for around two hours, only about 20 minutes of that will be spent undergoing surgery.
During the procedure your eye and surrounding tissue will be numbed. This is to prevent discomfort. The eye will then be prepared in accordance with the surgery you are having.
Once ready, you will be asked to maintain your focus on a single point (usually a light). This is to keep your eye steady while the laser works its magic.
You will then be sent home with an eye shield and instructions on what to expect over the next few days, weeks, and months.
We will see you at our office for a post-surgery assessment within 48 hours (ideally, within 24 hours).
You can expect mild discomfort for a few days to weeks after surgery. You may experience:
It is common for people to want to rub their eyes (don’t). Remember, these symptoms are temporary and will abate after a few days.
My first time at the optometrist, and I couldn't recommend Lakeside Vision any higher. Everyone from the moment I walked in until the time I left made me feel at ease. I waited basically no time despite a very busy office. Everyone explained everything to me very well. I will mostly definitely return and recommend this location to my friends and family.
Loved everyone from start to finish. The doctor and staff are very knowledgeable, pleasant, and efficient. The location is easy to get to, and the office is very warm and inviting. Would highly recommend Lakeside Vision to anyone.
One of the best offices I have ever been to in Pennsylvania. Great staff that is supported by great doctors. If you are looking for an eye doctor then I highly recommend lakeside vision!
My husband had his first appointment yesterday, and was very pleased with the services provided. The staff were knowledgeable and very friendly! Our son had been the first to visit the office last year. Thanks for another great experience! It's obvious that this office takes the time to educate their staff about quality care!
I was taken care of wonderfully. I was made to understand everything that was done and what the reason was needed. My vision problems were summed up for me and the glasses were ordered for me to correct the problems with my vision. I am very happy that we are back with Lakeside Vision.
